FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

General

What levels are the classes?
My classes can accommodate all levels of experience and are accessible for all ages and abilities. I can offer variations and modifications for beginners to advanced yogis for each pose to suit your ability.
As a beginner, what can I expect?
Traditional yoga classes start with a short centering and/or meditation and/or breathwork and typically move on to a sequence of warm-ups, balance poses, a variety of seated, standing, kneeling, supine and prone poses, and end with a final relaxation pose called "Savasana."
What if I have an injury, a disability or other special condition? Can I attend?
I can accommodate certain injuries, disabilities and special conditions. However, you should always listen to your body and do what is right for you. If you are uncertain if you should practice yoga with your condition, please seek the advice and approval from your healthcare provider. As is the case with any physical activity, the risk of injury is always present and can not be fully eliminated. Students assume full responsibility for their participation in my yoga classes and/or events.
What if I am pregnant? Can I attend?
Always listen to your body and do what is right for you. If you are uncertain if you should practice yoga while pregnant, please seek the advice and approval from your healthcare provider. As is the case with any physical activity, the risk of injury is always present and can not be fully eliminated. Students assume full responsibility for their participation in my yoga classes and/or events.
What if I can’t keep up with the pace of the class?
That’s OK — just do your best and pace yourself. If you feel uneasy at any time, simply sit out a pose, modify the pose to suit your ability or rest in Child's Pose.
What do I wear? Do I wear shoes or socks?
I recommend wearing comfortable clothing (yoga clothes, athletic gear, etc.) that will allow you to stretch. Yoga is traditionally practiced without shoes and preferably without socks. However, for outdoor classes, I can also cue the yoga session in a way that you can leave your shoes on, if you prefer.

About Private Yoga Classes

What are the benefits of a private class?
A private class is one that is reserved for you or your group only; not open to the public. You get to choose the time and location and I will bring the yoga mats and yoga props. Private classes also have the benefit of more personalized attention and accommodation of special requests.
What should I bring for BEACH yoga?
For beach yoga, I recommend using a large beach towel (or blanket) as a mat; it works better on sand than a traditional yoga mat. Feel free to bring your own beach towel and/or yoga props if you prefer ...but I'll bring clean, cotton Turkish beach towels along with yoga props for use. You may also want to bring: bottle of water, sunglasses and/or cap. For early morning or evening beach classes, you may also want to wear layers.
What should I bring for OUTDOOR yoga (not on beach sand)?
For outdoor yoga on grass or hard surface, feel free to bring your own yoga mat and/or yoga props if you prefer ...but I'll bring clean, sanitized yoga mats and yoga props for use. If you prefer, you may want to bring a beach towel or a face towel to place on top of the yoga mat for face-down poses. Yoga mats are as clean as possible, but if you feel uncomfortable with your face on a yoga mat that is not your own, a towel is a good solution. You may also want to bring a bottle of water, sunglasses and/or or cap and sunscreen, depending on the time of day.
What should I bring for INDOOR yoga?
For indoor yoga, feel free to bring your own yoga mat and/or yoga props if you prefer ...but I'll bring clean, sanitized yoga mats and yoga props for use. If you prefer, you may want to bring a beach towel or a face towel to place on top of the yoga mat for face-down poses. Yoga mats are as clean as possible, but if you feel uncomfortable with your face on a yoga mat that is not your own, a towel is a good solution. You may also want to bring a bottle of water.
Can I bring my kid(s) to the yoga class?
Yes! Private yoga classes can be a great family activity. Kids are welcome whether they will be joining us in class or if they want to just hang out and play next to you.
Can I bring my pet(s) to the yoga class?
Yes! Pets are welcome at my private classes as long as it is allowed in that location.
Will photos be taken?
Private group classes are a great photo opportunity to create lasting memories. If you'd like, I can take a few candid photos during class and leave time for a group photo after class. If you prefer not to be photographed, please let me know beforehand.
How do I request a private class?
If you're interested in booking a private yoga class with me, email tracy@tracysouthard.com or call / text 410-251-6146 to discuss details.
How do I reserve a private class?
Private classes require a $50 non-refundable deposit (applied to total) to reserve date and time. The balance is due on the day of class by cash or Venmo.
Is the deposit refundable?
Booking deposits are non-refundable, unless class is canceled by instructor or outdoor class is rained out or other inclement weather and the class cannot be moved indoors. No reschedules or refunds for no shows.
